  • Shoulder Joint
  • Chest / Thorax
  • Abdomen
  • Spine

Why Is a CT Scan Performed?

CT scan assists to detect and diagnose various abnormalities in the internal organs of the body. It is also performed to inspect any bone damage or injuries. It is a helpful tool in the following situations:

  • Detect and diagnose bone injuries and muscle disorders like fractures, bone tumors, etc.
  • Identify the tumor, infection, etc
  • Inspect the blood vessels
  • Observe the progress of the ongoing treatment of the medical diagnosis
  • Prepare for guided biopsies
  • Identify internal damages or bleeding

The results of the CT scans are quick compared to MRI or any other imaging process.

How Is The CT Scan Procedure Performed?

CT scan is a quick and non-invasive imaging process. X-Ray mechanism is used to visualize the detailed images of the inner organs. The patient will be asked to lie down on the table that is attached to the machine. The horizontal table then goes into the center of the CT machine to process the images.

The X-ray device in the CT machine moves around the body part that is to be assessed and takes several pictures in slices. The table will move front and back to get detailed images of the body part.

It is important not to change positions or move your body during the process. You may be asked to hold your breath for a few seconds to get detailed images of the organ.

A radiologist will be inspecting the entire procedure from the nearby room with the help of a mic and speakers.

Usually, it takes less than 30 minutes to perform a CT scan.

Preparation for the CT scan

There are no special requirements or diet to be followed prior to the scan. You will be asked to wear the gown provided by the lab to get a clear picture of the organs. Metallic contents are not allowed inside the CT scan room as it affects the machine’s radio-waves, leading to incorrect imaging.
